spacer "What is a Pterodactyl doing on my fishfinder screen?! Which way is that transducer pointed, anyway?"

"Dude.... those boomerang shapes? Hungry fish. They smell bait and are all agitated."

"Hello? Is this the service department? Ummmmm... I turned my new High Def fishfinder on, and I'm certain it's broken. I think I see an amoeba floating across the transducer. I'm bringing the boat in now. Can you fix it?!"

Any of this sounding familiar at all? We're partial to that last one- the higher the tech gets, the easier it is to get lost under water from the decks of our boats, isn't it. And just when we think we've figured it all out, someone hits re-set and we have no idea what we're looking at all over again!
It may well be that you've never wondered all that much how the shapes that are on the screen got to look the way they do. But to get the most out of your fishing time, you can really afford to get a lot more out of your fishing equipment- namely your fish finder!

The What you DON'T KNOW About Your Electronics seminar series starting at 5:30PM on Thursday, April 12th at GFM is designed specifically to give you the basics of sonar technology.

By the end of the first class...
~ You will have what you need to get your settings dialed in to their best-possible-use and make adjustments on the fly all on your own.

~ You will understand what the images on your screen are really telling you.

~ You will be able to resolve signal interference problems.

~ You will find it a snap to set waypoints for future use.

~ You will figure out a little bit more about that mysterious black box we call a transducer.

~ You will be able to load your own software updates (a crucial skill these days) and offload those stored waypoints and other data.

Ultimate Bass U Alum, Zack Thompson, Goes Double Wacky!

... And not because we drove him to it

We haven't seen him for a couple years, and we're way overdue for a check-in with Zack (ProZack) Thompson! Since his FLW Angler of the Year title in 2009, he has kept his name at the top of the standings, and is in-it-to-win-it for this year's AOY title. Hanging on to his 2nd place standing in the Western Everstart series, Thompson is absolutely a contender!

Of late, Thompson has also put his name on the map for fishing tackle innovation in the Double Wacky Hook for weightless baits (like Senkos). Everyone knows the Senko is a surefire in these parts, and with this new hook design, we're sure to see more fish making it to the boat! Zack cover the rig, give some great pointers about how to fish it, and make sure we know what we need to do for the spring bite coming up on Clear Lake and the Delta. Your tournament buddies won't know what hit them!

For all the wins throughout the West, Zack is also a local "kid"- a California Delta bass maestro and instructor, and a Clear Lake prodigy, Zack Thompson is a fantastic resource for the areas we fish most. Bring your checkbook, and set up a trip to get the best education the water has to offer!

We'll see you at 6:30, Tuesday, March 20th for Ultimate Bass University!

What's With Kids (and Their Alabama Rigs) These Days?!

Well, to give you the bottom line, they're catchin' a ton of fish! We're excited to welcome Clear Lake master, Ross England, to take center stage at Ultimate Bass University on Tuesday, February 21st. If we can count on anyone, it's him to get us all dialed in on the A-Rig's close cousin, the Calibama Rig!

Ross is a UBU favorite for his knowledge and wisdom on all things Clear Lake. He has more than paid his dues up there as one of the lake's foremost guides, and he was also a mover and shaker on some major tournament trails back in the day. And, we're grateful to say, he's not the least bit set in his ways after his 25+ year tournament career. In his quest for the ultimate day on the water, Ross has really explored and mastered A-Rig fishing. If you're the least bit curious to figure out how it all works, this is the opportunity you've been waiting for!

We'll see you at 6:30, Tuesday, February 21st for Ultimate Bass University!

This guy WON THIS BOAT!

Our warmest congratulations to Ike Milton of Vacaville, CA! Gone Fishin' Marine, JetCraft Boats, Mercury Outboards, and California Inland Fisheries Foundation worked hard throughout 2011 to sell, sell, sell those raffle tickets. The boat traveled all over Northern California, and back on September 17th at the annual CIFFI dinner, GFM regular, Ike Milton, won the whole thing! Throughout the year, Ike parked in the Finance office at least once a week to "make a payment on [his] boat." Just goes to show what a little extra work can do!

Congratulations Ike- enjoy the years to come on the water!

EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE is Reading Bass Angler Magazine!

The Bass Angler Magazine fan club has gone international, and with good reason! As a longtime guide on the Delta and a rock solid competitor on the FLW and BASS tours, it is only too logical that Mark Lassagne should have his finger on the pulse of what anglers need to know and from whom.

Meet up with Fishin' Phenom, Richard Dobyns, Tuesday, October 18th!!

No tricks this month, just treats.... Like welcoming the FLW Everstart's newest Angler of the Year, Richard Dobyns to Ultimate Bass University next Tuesday, October 18th!

Lest we get too complacent thinking we only have to worry if Gary Dobyns shows up to a tournament, here's his son, Richard, to set us straight. Make no mistake, Richard is a formidable angler in his own right. The 2011 FLW Everstart Western series found him in the top 15 four times, and that doesn't even graze the surface of his WON Bass successes and team titles along the way to this year's AOY title! And coming up? Richard is hitting the road for the 2012 season on the FLW National Tour! If it's not enough that he's taking names on the water, the younger Dobyns is also a major creative force in product development and testing at Dobyns Rods.

Richard Dobyns is probably best known for his finesse tactics that land tons of spotted bass on lakes like Shasta and Oroville- so we asked him to hit on those topics for starters. BUT.... Please bring your questions and curiosities! After the fun we had with Randy McAbee and Ish Monroe, it's clear that the more questions you bring, the more custom fit the presentation, and the more we all get out of it. (That is, after all, the entire point of UBU)!

~ The seminar starts at 6:30pm, on Tuesday, October 18th. This is the only UBU of the year with an admission price- please bring a new, unwrapped toy (or several) for our annual Toys for the Troops Kids collection! (If you prefer, you can buy in for $10 instead, but we think toy shopping is way more fun).

~ The refreshments are free.

~ And so is the main raffle.
We try to keep things pretty straightforward, but if you have any other questions, drop a line!
