Another day, another mysterious new act. Yesterday we discussed the slowly building hype of the still somewhat enigmatic Arthur Beatrice. While I wrote about Arthur Beatrice comparatively late on, waiting it out till enough details were revealed, I intend to pounce upon new solo artist Pale early to see how things pan out.

Cinema Preview: Top Six Films To See in April 2012

The Easter season seems somewhat bereft of what I'd term as "soppy family entertainment" although a) I may well have overlooked everything and b) this is a good thing. There is 'Titanic 3D' (6 April) and Rihanna's "star" turn in the explosions frenzy that is 'Battleship' (11 April) but I'm not yet convinced by either. Instead, five films follow that are genuinely worth investigating. Not always for the most positive of reasons.

Surfacing: Arthur Beatrice [New Band]

There have been plenty of whispers around London for the last six months or so about Arthur Beatrice - playing their own sporadic clubnights while deliberately holding back any studio recordings from making their way onto the internet. But they have now begun to show some of their cards, in good time for their debut single, 'Midland', making its way onto limited 12" vinyl this month.

YADi live at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen (21 March '12) // Words + Photo: Saam Das
I'd written about female solo artist(e) extraordinaire YADi late last year and hence snapped up the opportunity to go see her at the Gold Dust clubnight in Hoxton. Even though it was in Hoxton. Gold Dust prides itself on unearthing new gems, much like we do here, and our mutual interest in YADi proved worthwhile.

Film Review: The Cabin In The Woods (2012)

'The Cabin In The Woods' (UK Release: 13 April '12) // Words: Lauren Johnson-Ginn
The hype surrounding Joss Whedon’s upcoming hero-fest 'The Avengers' is currently at feverish levels, but I will (somewhat guiltily) admit that I was far more excited to see 'The Cabin In The Woods' – a comparatively inauspicious horror-comedy with a modest budget and more than a few tricks up its sleeves, co-written by Whedon and 'Cloverfield' scribe Drew Goddard.

Simon Says: All Aboard The Goblin Jetliner

Where there’s muck there’s brass as my gran used to say, and appropriately I’ve been musing on how the fates have been kind to her favourite heavy metal band, Iron Maiden. He’s such a nice boy that Bruce Dickinson, she would say, and in a recent edition of Metal Hammer there’s a photo of him in the cockpit of his 757, resplendent in his pilot’s uniform, that would have made her so proud.
