spacer Is traditional high school a good fit for your teen?

How is high school preparing your teen for life in the 21st century?
Is your teen focusing on his/her career and life goals?
Does the program integrate technology, communication, financial literacy, personal development, and business skills?

Is your high schooler fully engaged in a relevant curriculum?
Is he/she confident about his/her strengths and talents?
Are you longing for a customized program that meets YOUR teen's learning needs?

spacer Wishing for another option? Your search is over.

Imagine a high school experience that:
• delivers exactly what your child needs to be successful in the world
• is personalized to his/her learning styles, interests, passions, talents
• is focused around career interests and life goals!

A place where:
• instead of being stressful, learning is enjoyable and motivating
• instead of labeling students with learning disabilities, we find their strengths
• instead of resisting school, students are eager to participate

Solimar Academy is that high school!

spacer Re-think everything about high school...

Most people do not know that this is possible!

Our current students are focusing on their interests in fashion, cooking, engineering, drama, the arts, and many other areas. Their programs can include internships, work experience, volunteering, or even starting a business. Skills in areas such as writing or math are included as needed and in ways that work for their learning styles. Life skills, fitness, and financial literacy are also emphasized.

A big part of their programs is exploring their career goals and figuring out how to get there, whether it be a vocational program, a business, a community college, or a university.

spacer Choose an education that fits!

Have you asked yourself these questions?

• Will my child be prepared for the rapidly changing, highly competitive job market of the future?
• Is my high schooler being encouraged to think creatively and flexibly or is she inundated with endless, boring, rote busy work?
• Is my high schooler being challenged to think big or is he drowning in a sea of required courses he will never use?

This is what the experts from education and business are saying:

“We are heading to an era in which schooling will change profoundly. The teacher will not be the talking head at the front of the classroom but the expert in students’ learning styles, the educational equivalent of a medical doctor. Children will no longer be grouped by age. Each student will advance at his or her own pace... through individualized tutorials.” Arthur Levine, President, Teachers College, Columbia University

“Teachers and schools should encourage critical and creative thinking. The future of our country and their success will depend on their ability to be innovative, entrepreneurial, and even visionary.” Daniel H. Pink, author, writes and speaks about the changing world of work

“The future belongs to those who can see possibilities...and who know what to do with them.” Donald Cooper, MBA “thought leader” and a passionate visionary in the areas of marketing, service and business excellence

spacer The graduates of today need to…

• be forward thinkers and expand their visions of what’s possible
• adapt to our rapidly changing world
• be well versed in technology, communication, and social networking
• be financially literate
• have confidence in their own talents and skills

Instead, your kids are suffering in our one-size-fits-all classrooms, a continuation of their elementary school years. Too many students are getting the message that they are not smart enough, not motivated enough, not talented enough to pursue something worthwhile after graduation. It’s no wonder that the latest figure for the high school drop-out rate in California is 21.7%. Of those students who do graduate and go on to college, about 50% drop out during the first two years.

Too many students have no direction, do not know what they want to do with their lives, and lack the self-confidence or the skills to either make it in higher education or to have a successful career. This country is experiencing a crisis in education and in the job market. And in the midst of it your high schooler is still being forced to do useless busy work and memorize facts that can easily and quickly be looked up with any computer or smart phone.
