Group Classes

We offer several levels of group Obedience classes.

Our Beginner Obedience class is more appropriately called House Manners 101, because our goal in this 4 week class is to help you and your canine find a lifestyle that is harmonious and free from nasty habits such as jumping, chewing, counter surfing, excessive barking – all of this on top of the basic obedience commands such as sit, down, stay, loose leash walking, and door manners.   Our class size is typically 6 to 7 students, and our instructors work with each student individually to provide hands-on training.    Instructor dogs are also used to demonstrate proper technique.

Intermediate Obedience classes last 6 weeks long, and focus on proofing distractions, duration, and distance – all critical factors in ensuring that dogs learn these behaviors happen both at home, and in other places of distraction.    Two of these classes are NOT held at The Ranch – we often meet at schools, parks or other green spaces that are brimming with activity to solidify your training.    Dogs do not need to attend our Beginner class, but must be able to demonstrate no less than 1-minute sit and down stays, and good loose leash walking skills in order to enter this level.

Advanced Obedience classes are also 6 weeks long, and we really take the three proofing behaviors (distance, distraction and duration) and extend them.   This is the type of training that our instructors do for all of their personal dogs in every day life.   This type of training shows how to achieve 100% off leash control, amidst distractions of every shape size and sound.    Four of these classes will be held at off-site locations, and two at The Ranch.   Prerequisites for this class include sit-stay, down-stay and off-leash walking – instructor approval entry only.

Private Lessons

Private lessons allow individuals to focus only on the goals their dog needs, and by-pass the curriculum that they have already achieved.   We tailor each lesson so that your dog learns quickly, and you understand correct timing, delivery, rewarding, and correcting all of your obedience or house manners.

Please note that most behavioral lessons must be done in-home, so that we can re-create each skill in the dog’s natural environment.    Comparatively, a 4 week 30-minute private lesson can be very practical at only $15 more than a 4 week group class.

Semi-private lessons may be shared between dogs and owners of similar skill levels.

Please keep in mind that all services at the Ranch are by appointment only, so please call 678.493.8040 or email stay@thecanineranch.com to book your appointment.
