Libretto’s Gangsta Jazz is the first free digital EP in a series of collaborations between Slum Funk Entertainment and Liquid Beat Records.  The concept behind the Gangsta Jazz EP and the forthcoming Gangsta Boogie EP was make to make a cohesive project strictly using loops from old records with minimal extra production. The goal is to pay tribute to the classic sound of the great 90s West Coast Hip-Hop Libretto grew up with in Watts, California (think King T, Compton’s Most Wanted, and WC and the Maad Circle).  By utilizing the soulful, sample based sound that was used to such perfect effect in the early 90s, Libretto reminds us of the power, perspective, and poetry that Gangsta Rap has to offer.

The first release on Liquid Beat records is here!  ”Ride To Dat” is the follow up to Libretto’s classic single “Volume” ft. Lifesavas and it finds him at the top of his game trading verses with Detroit’s Guilty Simpson.  The song boasts production from Sedell Jones and 2 remixes from Lifesavas’ own Rev. Shines and JUMBO the Garbageman.  The original version of “Ride To Dat” is a certified summer jam while the remixes add their own ill flavor for these two Hip-Hop heavyweights to toast to.

An a-side track on any other release, “Da Bump!” shows Libretto’s versatility as an emcee in the way he matches his lyrics and delivery perfectly around Wolveryne’s dynamic production.  With a fresh flip of a Digable Planets sample that gives “Da Bump!”‘ an infectious rhythm and flow, Libretto and Wolveryne have created the perfect forward thinking club hit rooted firmly in the true school.

Libretto’s new single is Hip-Hop at its finest, fit for any era, and a welcome return from one of Hip-Hop’s great voices.
