"Some Mother's Son"

Series: Celtic Film Series

Based on the true story of the 1981 hunger strike in a British prison, in which IRA prisoner Bobby Sands led a protest against the treatment of IRA prisoners as criminals rather than as prisoners of war. The film focuses on the mothers (Helen Mirren and Fionnula Flanagan) of two of the strikers, and their struggle to save the lives of their sons. (1996; Rated R for language and some political violence and suffering; 112 minutes) • Free

Williamsburg Regional Library presents the Celtic Film Series in cooperation with the local chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.  The monthly series explores the history, drama and quirky humor of films made in or about Ireland.
