We just HAD to share this!  Our friends over at EventsForce really have their fingers on the pulse, as they just cited a report that surprised even the likes of the meetheads over here at freshmeet!

According to CareerCast.com, Event Coordinators have one of the most stressful jobs going. It comes in at #6, behind: soldiers, firefighters, pilots, generals and police – which makes it the most stressful non-dangerous job.

We want to know what YOU think about that!!!!!

what the events industry can learn from designer Betsey Johnson

publisher : January 29, 2012 8:10 pm : Gallery, raw meet blog

Now, we’re not trying to pretend that freshmeet is Vogue-magazine-in-waiting, but one of the things that we celebrate around here is the impact of lifestyle and fashion on anything and everything we do in events. Our publisher just so happens to have a girl-crush on design rockstar Betsey Johnson because that woman just pushes the envelope on everything – on fashion, on personality and on the runway. It’s not just Betsey’s je ne sais quoi or her “I-dare-you-NOT-to-wear-that-pink-tutu-with-torn-fishnets-and-black-baby-doll-pumps” design moxie, but the very spirit and fearlessness that she brings to the runway…I mean, who else do you know who would do a perfectly executed cartwheel (and likely while wearing 4 inch stilettos) on the runway at the end of New York Fashion Week?

So, what in the heck does Betsey Johnson have to do with the events industry? Nothing. And Everything. As event professionals we’re often bridled by the fear of event failure…ok, maybe that’s a bit dramatic…what we really mean is the fear that the event is too “out there” to get attention or that it’s too bizarre to fit the mainstream mold…bottom line…we’re afraid of failure. So what can we take out of the Betsey Johnson playbook that might apply to our fear of throwing a ridiculously cool, off the hook event?

WHEN IN DOUBT – DO A CARTWHEEL!
Find that big reveal or that unlikely, unexpected element that we like to call (not that we coined it…we just like to use it) the element of surprise – and execute it with your shoulders back and a big smile on your face.

GO BIG OR JUST DON’T GO!
Don’t be afraid of greatness.  Just do it.

ACCESSORIZE!
The Devil’s in the Details, so make sure that you think of everything…big or small.

PUSH THE ENVELOPE!
And if you’re like Betsey, it will be lipstick stained.  Make your mark and make it OUTRAGEOUS!

STOMP THE BOX WITH STILETTOS!
Sometimes we use the cliche “outside the box”…because sometimes that just the only way to describe how we should all be. But, we’ll always put our little spin on it…so don’t just step outside of it, put on your stilettos and stomp the heck out of it!
