Pico Projectors to Bolster Future Growth for QuickLogic According to Bloomberg
Bloomberg is reporting that the outlook for QuickLogic is turning positive. The fabless semiconductor company is developing technologies to improve display performance while also improving power consumption. Its ActicLink II VX CSSP technology has been adopted by companies including Pantech and Kyocera for smartphones. Now, it appears others may join these two for new smartphone and tablet designs.

Sony has released a new video of its latest palm-sized camcorder featuring a built-in pico projector. The Sony HXR-NX30 packs some impressive technology, including: 96GB of embedded flash memory, an ultra-wide angle 26mm Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens with 10X optical zoom, balanced optical SteadyShot for superb image stabilization, an enhanced low-light CMOS sensor for incredible image quality in dark environments, as well as the aforementioned embedded pico projector.

Kenwood Developing Head-up Display for Automobiles
In a move to keep up with Pioneer, Kenwood is developing its own head-up display (HUD) for automobiles. Demonstrated at CES this year, the Kenwood HUD system also appears to use a laser-based approach, resulting in sharp, crisp, and vibrant colors. Also similar to the Pioneer system, Kenwood has designed their HUD to wirelessly communicate with your smartphone and navigation system to provide all kinds of pertinent information to the driver.
Sony Launches 5 New Camcorders with Embedded Pico Projectors
Digitimes is reporting that Sony is launching eight new camcorders in hopes to push its market share in Taiwan to 80%. Interestingly, five of these new models (the PJ Series) will be equipped with embedded pico projectors.

Epicrystals Developing Advanced Laser Light Sources for Mobile Projectors
The Engineer is reporting that Epicrystals is teaming up with the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Aalto University to develop next-generation mobile laser projection displays. While the exact technology being developed isn't clear, the parties indicate that the technology being pursued is entirely new - like nothing else being used in the world. Further, Epicrystals expects to leverage this technology to be THE market leader in laser light sources by 2015. Pretty aggressive, seeing as they will be competing with the likes of Osram, Soraa, Corning, among others.
