Electronic Musician Interview

“Composer, sound designer, and certified Ableton Live educator Laura Escudé certainly has the electronic music street cred necessary to back her forthcoming debut album, Pororoca. The title track of her new record is chock full of smooth strings, delayed synths, and ominous choir vocals, all of which combine to make up the bulk of her moody piece. In fact, a beat doesn’t make its way into the song until two minutes in, and disappears in half the time—reminding us of an era when electronic music was more centered around melody than rhythm.”

“I recently found a beautiful and totally awe inspiring short move called “Pororoca” (which is a powerful tidal wave or bore phenomenon). I can’t stop watching it cause I want to find something that reveals the clip to be animated but I can’t, yet it is. Pororoca is a wondrous and gigantic leap in animation and a beautiful canvas of colors. The clip was created by two people doing what they love and it shows. Scott Pagano (Designer, Animator and Director) has truly mastered the art of depicting wild life even though it’s fiction. The soundtrack makes the whole thing even more addicting and amazing. Laura Escudé (Producer, Composer and Violin Player) has done a wonderful job catching the essence of this rich short movie. I think we’ll be seeing a lot more from these people. After all, they touch the same quality, if not better, that we all enjoyed in the movie Avatar by James Cameron. This is another step in human technology that I think we’ll see coming up sooner than l”

“I don’t normal spin a whole lot of techno ambient digital instrumentals, but this song is truly something beautifully elegant and enchanting in an entirely different way that than the acoustically melodic song I posted last week, I Blame Baltimore. And the video takes it to a whole nother level. Trust me; watch it at least once. It’s from music technologist, violinist, composer, sound designer and educator Laura Escudé, and is the title track from her upcoming debut Pororoca.”
- Sean, Mainstream Isn’t So Bad

“I’m Lili Haydn, recording artist and film composer working with several programs, including Pro Tools and Ableton Live, among others.   Laura Escude has been a wonderful help to me in so many ways as I have expanded my studio and my productions.   She has helped me achieve my goals in relation to music technology, and answered many questions as they have come up, both technical and creative.   I highly recommend working with Laura if you want to work with someone with great knowledge, focused energy, elegant taste, and cool to be around.”

-Lili Haydn

“Laura Escude is an invaluable resource for me as an independent artist. I call her to help me coordinate my equipment and computer programs for live performances. She has also tutored me on Ableton Live, working with me on specific questions and projects that don’t fit into the standard applications of this program. I highly recommend Laura – she is intelligent, experienced and a pleasure to work with.”

-Mary Lou Newmark

“Laura is highly talented and capable. Not only is she incredibly talented musically and amazingly proficient technically, but she’s an excellent communicator as well. As a representative of her company, I was very impressed with her product knowledge and market familiarity, not to mention her confidence. Very impressive!”

Ernie Rideout , Editor in Chief , Keyboard Magazine

“Laura communicates complex ideas to partner companies in an easy to understand way, and is impressive onstage, for both professional demos and artist shows.”

Jesse Terry , Partner Marketing/Artist Relations , Ableton

“Laura is an all-too-rare gem in the world of electronic musical instrument marketing. Meaning, she came at it from the standpoint of being a musician with a long history of using the products she now markets and demonstrates, NOT from being yet another public relations major who simply thought it would be cool to work in the music industry. All the same, her PR and communications skills should make anyone who does fit that description jealous. Whether it’s a nontechnical audience that just wants to find out what the product is all about, or a technical one that wants to delve into deep features, she delivers the goods, and backs it up with a musical performance that SHOWS, not just tells. In short, she’s got the sizzle and the steak.”

Stephen Fortner , Technical Editor , Keyboard Magazine (NewBay Media LLC)

“Laura has been a pleasure to work with and her knowledge of Ableton and so many other products in the music technology field are very broad. Her attention to detail on multiple projects is remarkable. I highly recommend Laura Escude.

Huston Singletary , lead clinician, training specialist & demonstrator , Ableton

“Laura, Is one stop shopping. She’s a super talent, wonderful person and and is someone you want on your team!! More work to come from me for sure!

Carmen Rizzo, Two-time Grammy nominated producer and composer

“I met Laura during her time with Ableton and can affirm that she is an incredibly knowledgeable specialist and musician, and that she is extremely friendly and easy to work with. I would highly recommend her on both a personal and professional level.”

David Das , Vice President, Production , Big Fish Audio

“Laura was such a joy to work with, one of my favorite people in the marketing department at M-Audio. She is friendly, personable, very responsible, thorough, smart, quick to learn and catch on. I always have admired her in-depth knowledge of music production and performance, and her ability to take on multiple projects at once. Can’t recommend her enough.”

Amanda Whiting, Media Relations Manager , M-Audio

We met Laura literally two weeks before the LA show and she blew us away when she prepared and learned everything in that small amount of time. She is a great talent and a wonderful person. I must add that I love having another girl in the group.”

Azam Ali, Niyaz

“Finally, to wind down the evening, I sat in on the superinformative Ableton Live 7 master class, hosted by the illustrious and talented Laura Escudé. The class focused on the new features in Ableton Live 7, including the ability to import REX files and the new drum racks. Escudé started with the drum racks and took the class from start to finish in creating what she called a “superphat beat” (and indeed, it was—I still have it looping in my head). She started by having her friend Jay beatbox into the mic for a bit (totally awesome) while she recorded it into Live. Next, she used a MIDI controller to mix up the recorded beats before adding and manipulating some effects to create a sick, bouncing rhythm. It was amazing to see all the in-depth capabilities of this killer app.”
