Harking back to the heady indie-fied folk-tinged days of the nineties, Cambridge band Eureka Stockade squirt out some classy tunes on this recording.
'All Alone' is the first taste on this sampler, the second track from the full length album. It has the carefree nature of a James track, with the lyrical delivery of The Levellers.
There's a crunchy guitar intro to 'Violence', which has a stronger melody than the previous song and a bit more punch. This melodic quality continues into 'Through Every Darkness', which is perhaps the most current song on offer with a rich tonal quality and a neat guitar line.
'Sharks' is an emotive number with the focus switching from guitar to piano. The song is bitter-sweet, drawing from downbeat lyricism in the verse into a slightly more militant feel in the chorus.
Eureka Stockade have shown depth and versatility in this record. 'Through Every Darkness' really is a great song and the other tracks are also good. I really enjoyed this record.
