LeadingAge New York, formerly the New York Association of Homes & Services for the Aging (NYAHSA), is a statewide association representing the entire spectrum of not-for-profit, mission-driven and public continuing care providers, including nursing homes, senior housing, adult care facilities, continuing care retirement communities, assisted living and community service providers. LeadingAge New York's members employ 150,000 professionals serving more than 500,000 New Yorkers annually. Its affiliate, the Foundation for Long Term Care (FLTC), produces high-quality, engaging, value-packed education opportunities for LeadingAge New York’s members, as well as non-members.

We are pleased to invite you to submit a proposal for our 2012 educational programs.

2012 EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING

The theme to inspire, serve and advocate will resonate throughout our educational programming in 2012 and will focus on the dynamic, innovative approaches the senior living and services sector can adopt to increase access, improve quality and significantly reduce costs of long term care services.

Topics for next year’s programs will include:

  • Managed care
  • Coordinated care model principles
  • The role of technology in transforming long term care
  • Collaborations, diversification of services and new business models of care
  • Operational efficiencies for managing in challenging economic times
  • Developing leadership and managing change
  • Quality outcomes
  • Survey and regulatory issues
  • Financial management and reimbursement
  • Marketing and occupancy

LeadingAge New York welcomes rich, engaging educational sessions that are applicable across the continuum of aging services, including assisted living, CCRCs, home and community-based services, senior housing and skilled nursing. Special consideration will be given to sessions that incorporate interactive educational methods, provide replicable hands-on knowledge and demonstrate measurable outcomes/results. Sessions are intended to educate/support learning and therefore will not sell, promote or pitch any specific product or service.

2012 VENUES

LeadingAge New York provides a variety of venues for engaging learning experiences.

  • In-Person
    • The Annual Conference and Exposition will be held May 21-23, location to be announced. We convene several hundred CEOs, administrators, executive team members and their staff for this unparalleled three-day opportunity to learn, network and grow. Next year's theme is "Inspire-Serve-Advocate."
    • Other in-person meetings and conferences are planned for directors of nursing, finance, social work, rehabilitation, recreation and activities, assisted living and adult home administrators, independent housing and home and community-based professionals throughout the year.
  • Distance Education
    • LeadingAge New York offers asynchronous on-line modules and synchronous webinars and audio conferences. Distance education allows presenters to reach a larger audience by allowing learners access to the program from any location, reduces costs for all, creates a repeatable and durable learning tool and is an easy-to-deliver format.
  • Articles
    • Articles appropriate in LeadingAge New York's publications and/or posting on the LeadingAge New York Web site.

PROGRAM FORMATS

We welcome educational sessions using any of a wide range of formats.

  • Instructional Format
    • The solo speaker or instructor will share his/her insight and expertise on the topic through examples and illustrations.
  • Case Study Format
    • Speakers are encouraged to share their progress/story. The case study should identify the issues that drove the decision-making process, review the steps taken for implementation, discuss challenges, identify the results and provide recommendations.
  • Panel Discussion Format
    • A panel discussion will begin with a statement of the issue by the panel moderator followed by each panelist sharing his/her perspective on the topic.
  • Facilitated Networking Format
    • These facilitator-led sessions provide an opportunity for the dynamic exchange of ideas among peers on a specific topic.
  • Site Tours
    • Innovative services, products, processes or models are showcased at the site or through a virtual tour.

SELECTION PROCESS

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Alignment with this year’s theme
