In 2012 our new adventure is to join a prison dog program where we  are teaming up with a correctional facility and will have some of our rescue dogs benefit from fostering and training by the inmates.

Our good friend and foster, Michelle Riccio, started this program. The program is called “Dont Throw Us Away” and is at the North Central Correctional Institution at Gardner (NCCI), in Gardner, MA.  The program began in April, 2011 and has had incredible success for both the rehabilitation of dogs and inmates alike, and hence GDRNE is thrilled to now be working with and choosing the dogs for the program.  The dogs receive a strong training foundation in good manners and basic obedience and are being tested by the C.L.A.S.S. program-Canine Life And Social Skills. The program lasts 8 weeks, at the end of which, the dogs will all know basic commands and good manners. Thus giving Great dogs who just possibly were not ready for a family home, the tools they need to be excellent members of your family. Adopters will have the opportunity to meet the dogs at events outside the Prison and will be required to meet the dog’s handler and participate in a graduation ceremony when their dog is ready to go home!

We are excited about all the new happenings at GDRNE this year and hope you will participate in our events and adventures as we save more lives than ever before in 2012!
