Our Campus

CIRENAS is located on one of the last undeveloped stretches of coastline on the Nicoya Peninsula within the Caletas-Ario National Wildlife Refuge.  Our campus is approximately 5 hours from San Jose and 3 hours from Liberia.  Santa Teresa and Cobano are the closest larger towns.

The Caletas-Ario National Wildlife Refuge

The Refuge was created in 2006 and is one of the first co-managed National Wildlife Refuges in Costa Rica.  Four species of sea turtles nest on the beaches of the Refuge including the endangered leatherback.  CIRENAS participants play an active role in the management of the Refuge through their research and environmental restoration projects.
