Michael Arthur Tremblay

spacer Known as a versatile and multi-talented musician Michael was able to pursue a four-year degree in theology through scholarships for voice and received minors in music and counseling. Michael has worked as a vocal, song writing and percussion coach at Calgary’s most prestigious music school, the Irene Besse Academy of Music. He has served as a National Canadian Judge for the GMA Covenant Awards judging such artists as Brian Doerkson, Jars of Clay and Down Here to name a few. He calls home the rolling hills of his native Southern Ontario.

  • Michael’s first paid gig that he can remember is when his father coaxed him to sing at a party at the age of five. After stunning the room with a pure voice, he was unable to physically hold all the money the crowd pushed into his tiny hands
  • With his father being a professional musician and an uncle who played pedal steel for Tommy Hunter, his musical heritage is rich and deeply rooted
  • Although known as a talented vocalist, song writer and guitar player, he also plays several other instruments including bass, drums, African djembe, bongos, piano and more
  • His debut CD tentatively titled Don’t Go Slow is planned for release in 2012 and will be featuring some of Canada’s best musicians
  • Though his first solo project will be in the Country-Pop genre, Michael is considered a musical chameleon among his peers, being able to sing a comprehensive variety of styles including classical, blues, rock, pop and folk
  • Michael loves a musical challenge and spent 2009-2010 fusing African djembe and bongos with a classic rock band

Michael has had the honor of sharing the stage with some of Canada’s best musicians including:

  • Fergus Marsh, formerly Bruce Cockburn’s bass player touring in the mid to late 80’s, and who worked on Stealing Fire, World of Wonders and Big Circumstance
  • Al Brisco, one of the world’s foremost pedal steel players who was Ronnie Hawkin’s bandleader in the 70′s and still plays sold-out shows for Caroll Baker, Canada’s Queen of country music
  • Dave ‘Smiley’ Calendar, original bass player for the Wild Strawberries
  • Dove award winner Larnelle Harris
  • Top 12 Canadian Idol contestant Jenn Beupre
  • Roxanne Young who has worked with Aerosmith, Disney, Cirque de Soleil and Barrage

A naturally sunny, outgoing and optimistic person, with a reputation for a great sense of humor, he has triumphed over tragedy and suffering time and again through the power of song.

Michael provides grief counseling through song writing for those who have suffered emotional pain and loss, combining gifts of compassion, counseling and caring for others with his love of songwriting. Helping others find closure through songwriting is one of his greatest joys.

His roles as Pastor, Youth Pastor, Bible teacher, Music Director, and Counselor for more than 25 years in churches across Canada and the United States has given him a depth of experience to share and teach.

More than any of his accomplishments or musical abilities, Michael believes that talent alone does not grant any special favors in this life. His caring as a humanitarian has been seen over the years in his concern for those in need, and he has volunteered in compassionate roles wherever he has lived. Most recently he performed with Jenn Beaupre for the Ronald McDonald, Rock The House Run in Calgary, Alberta.
