How to Obtain Continuing Education Credits

Do you have questions about how to obtain continuing education credit (CEU) for the courses provided by InformeDesign at InStore? Several different organizations have approved InformeDesign’s courses for CEU credits and more information about their requirements can be found here.

IDCEC

The Interior Design Continuing Education Council is the central entity for approving continuing education courses for the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), International Interior Design Association (IIDA), Interior Designers of Canada (IDC), and Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC). Any course approved by IDCEC is automatically approved for continuing education credit by these four organizations. However, each organization has a different number of CEUs that members are required to complete:

  • ASID requires 0.6 CEUs (i.e., six hours of CEU coursework) to be completed every two years. The current biennium started on January 1, 2010 and ends on December 31, 2011. ASID does not require members to report coursework. However, members must have records of their coursework (e.g., certificates of completion) in case they are audited. Source: www.asid.org/designers/CEU+Requirements.htm
  • IIDA requires 1.0 CEUs (i.e., ten hours of CEU coursework) to be completed every two years. The current biennium started on January 1, 2010 and ends on December 31, 2011. IIDA requires members to track their own coursework. Source: www.iida.org/content.cfm/compliance
  • IDC members should contact their provincial organization (e.g., ARIDO) to obtain information related to CEU requirements.

The National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) provides a system for you to track attendance of IDCEC-approved courses. This service is voluntary (i.e., not required). The form for submitting your course materials to NCIDQ can be found on their Web site (www.ncidq.org). InformeDesign will provide the IDCEC course number for approved InStore courses upon completion of the course.

Please note: InformeDesign does not report course attendance to IDCEC or NCIDQ. This is the responsibility of the course participant.

For more information please visit www.idcec.org

AIA

The American Institute of Architect’s (AIA) continuing education system, AIA CES Discovery, can be used to find courses that have been approved for AIA learning units (LUs). InformeDesign is an AIA Learning Unit Provider. If you are an AIA member, you should provide your member number on your course exam before you send it to InformeDesign for grading. InformeDesign will then report your course attendance to AIA. You can make sure your continuing education has been recorded by viewing your attendance record online on AIA’s Web site.

Please note: You MUST designate that you would like an InStore course reported for course attendance with AIA by providing your member number. Otherwise, InformeDesign staff will assume you do not want to receive credit for the course from AIA.

For more information please visit: www.aia.org/education/index.htm

EDAC

EDAC (Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification) is a program offered by the Center for Health Design that designates knowledge of how to make evidence-based healthcare building design decisions using credible research sources and project evaluation results. After completing and passing the EDAC exam, EDAC professionals are required to participate in three hours of EDAC approved coursework a year to maintain their status. ALL InStore courses are approved by EDAC for one hour of coursework. The form for submitting your materials to EDAC can be found here:
www.healthdesign.org/edac/documents/IndividualEDACCEUs_Dynamic.pdf

The EDAC CEU ID for all InStore courses is the InStore course number (e.g., TX0701)

Please note: InformeDesign does not report course attendance to EDAC. This is the responsibility of the course participant.

USGBC

The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) approves courses for the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) for the LEED® Credential Maintenance Program. InformeDesign is a USGBC CE provider. LEED Green Associates and LEED APs with specialties can take these courses to help meet their bi-annual credential maintenance requirements. After participants complete a USGBC-approved course, they are required to self-report with GBCI (www.GBCI.org). The course number required by GBCI will be provided for InStore course participants on the certificate of completion.
