Wine 1.4 Released spacer spacer spacer
Written by Tom Wickline
Wednesday, 07 March 2012 11:57

The Wine team is proud to announce that the stable release Wine 1.4 is now available.

This release represents 20 months of development effort and over 16,000 individual changes. The main highlights are the new DIB graphics engine, a redesigned audio stack, and full support for bidirectional text and character shaping.

It also contains a lot of improvements across the board, as well as support for many new applications, notably Microsoft Office 2010. See the release notes below for a summary of the major changes.

This release is dedicated to the memory of GĂŠ (Greg) van Geldorp, who passed away in May 2011. Greg single-handedly designed, built, and maintained the Wine Testbot, which has become a cornerstone of our development process. The high quality of this release owes a lot to his work. He is greatly missed by us all.

CODEWEAVERS LAUNCHES CROSSOVER XI THE COMPLETE PACKAGE FOR MAC AND LINUX USERS SEEKING TO RUN WINDOWS SOFTWARE spacer spacer spacer
Written by Tom Wickline
Tuesday, 06 March 2012 10:56

SAINT PAUL, Minn. (March 6, 2012)  Seeking simplification in an increasingly complicated world, CodeWeavers, Inc. announced today the release of its new software CrossOver XI. In one package, CrossOver XI enables all Mac and Linux PC users the ability run Windows software and games without the need for a Windows operating system license.

CrossOver XI replaces all previous versions of CodeWeavers’ CrossOver software.“No more CrossOver Games; so long CrossOver Pro (and Impersonator, and Bundle, and Platinum, and…), One download of CrossOver XI gives everyone in our universe immediate access to thousands of Windows applications otherwise unavailable without a Microsoft license,” said Jeremy White. “So, whether you’re a Mac user wanting to play Wizard 101, a Linux user needing Microsoft Office 2010, or someone who really misses the ‘90s and is nostalgic for WordPerfect 3.1, CrossOver XI is for you.”

Starting at $39.95, CrossOver XI is the most affordable software solution on the market to run your Windows applications on Mac and Linux. Sure, some solutions appear to be free or available at a comparable price, but they require you to purchase a copy of a Windows license, which can cost upwards of $100, before you can run any Windows applications. CrossOver does not. We repeat, CrossOver XI does not require you to purchase a Windows license.

How to install Microsoft Office 2010 on Linux with Wine spacer spacer spacer
Written by Tom Wickline
Thursday, 16 February 2012 10:15

I installed MS Office Professional 2010 on my Ubuntu computers and it's working fluently.

It is a nerve breaking experience for a Linux new bee to work with open-office for documentation works than their favorite MS Office. New interface and new formats of open office makes them reluctant to take it as a first choice. So this post is for those who are tired of rebooting your system to make small changes in the documentations.

Now you don’t want to reboot your system to get windows™ and MS Office™ to work on your documents. You can do it from any Linux distribution with wine.

To help further Wine development please consider purchasing a copy of CrossOver from CodeWeavers.

Mac Review Crossover Games 10 spacer spacer spacer
Written by Tom Wickline
Thursday, 06 October 2011 09:30

Once upon a time, Mac was a happy little gaming platform, with such breakout releases as Puzzle, Through the Looking Glass and Myst. But then a tragedy fell upon the world of Mac, their arch-nemesis Microsoft created an evil potion called Direct X, and Microsoft slipped this poison into the drinks of game developers. Upon consuming this poison, the developers turned into mindless slaves, to be controlled by the evil Microsoft, and at Microsofts bidding, the developers stole games away from their Mac homesteads.

For years upon years, nobody heard Mac’s plight to have these games returned to them, but eventually a hero heard the cries of help from distressed Macs everywhere, and this brave hero, who we shall call Jeremy White (or Jer, for short), banded together a gaggle plethora schooltable of brave knights and knightesses, whom he called CodeWeavers.

Together, the CodeWeavers found a way for both Mac and PC to share games (and not just games, but other software) together, but over all the years a lot of games had fallen victim to stockholm syndrome, and so the CodeWeavers had to find a way to trick these games into playing with their Mac parents and siblings, and so they created a Direct X anti-venom, which they dubbed “Cross-over Games”.

CodeWeavers Tagline Contest spacer spacer spacer
Written by Tom Wickline
Friday, 15 July 2011 12:18

So we've been thinking here at the CodeWeavers ranch that we need a good tagline to summarize what we do in a 8 words or less. Something as unforgettable as Milk's "Got Milk?" Or as timeless as Nike's "Just Do It!" Or as awesome as Timex, "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking." Sure, we could do it ourselves, but we would rather open it up to our loyal customers and fans and reward them with an 8 GB iPod touch. Enter as many taglines as you wish by filling out the form below or mailing us your submission to 700 Raymond Ave. Suite 120, St. Paul, MN 55114.. Contest runs from July 1, 2011 through July 22, 2011. The marketing department will handpick the winner and not only will you win an iPod Touch, you will also get to see your tagline displayed on our future website!
