Sabine Baring-Gould 1834 - 1924

Welcome to the 'Songs of the West' website - the successor to my 'Sabine Baring-Gould - Songs of the West' site, which it has replaced.

The aim of the site is to publish information related to Baring-Gould's collection of songs, made in Devon and Cornwall,  as well as providing useful background information to put it into context.  As time goes on I will continue to add to the selection of the songs that we have transcribed from the manuscripts. We are also publishing collections of songs, such as of children's songs, that you can download. You will find them in the 'Songs' section (click on the tab on the left). There are also a number of songs from the Baring-Gould collection on our own website www.martinandshan.net which covers our singing activities. Do head over there and browse through some of the songs over there as well.

I will also add to the other useful resources: links, indexes, articles and ... well, anything that I think is a good idea, really.

Important News: I don't, generally, intend to put news on this page. However, the launch of the Baring-Gould folk song manuscripts on the EFDSS/VWML 'Take Six' website is a very important event.  Go to library.efdss.org/archives/ to visit the site. Then enter 'SBG'into the search box. If you just want to browse through the collection then this is best done through the 'tree view' - then click on the '+' boxes to see the content of each volume. You can find a Guide to the Baring-Gould Manuscript Collection under the the tab for 'The Manuscript Collection'

I always welcome your feedback - please tell me what you think.  Tell me what works for you but also tell me about the things that don't work.  You can send me a message using  this link. And please feel free to scribble something in the Guest Book.

And do enjoy your visit!
