Michaelsarsia, an extant coccolithophore, the expansion project will include coverage of modern nannoplankton
INA14 , probably September 2013, venue tbc. The next International Nannoplankton Association conference was goimg to be held in Cluj-Napoca in Transylvania, Romania, in Septemeber 2012. Unfortunately though organisation ofthe conference there proved impossible and the confwrence had to be postponed. It will now take place in summer 2013, possible in Washington USA, but other suggestions are welcome. |
Expansion Project
We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a substantial grant from the Knowledge Exchange programme of the UK Natural Environment Research Council to develop the Nannotax website. This project will run for two years, from November 2011, and will enable us to improve, develop and expand the website, in collaboration with a network of project partners. More detail on this project will be given in a separate page.
Changes
Spring 2011. With support from the Gulf Coast Section of the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists (GCSSEPM), we are working with the scratchpads team in the NHM to develop web dictionaries of chronostratigraphic and biostratigrphic terms. These will enable intelligent use of geological time in the site. In parallel we are expanding content of the site. In particular the Mesozoic section has now been developed to a very useful level.
Welcome to Nannotax
Objective: To provide a user-editable site providing authoritative information on nannofossil taxonomy and biostratigraphy
What's on so far: Neogene: Rather comprehensive coverage of nannofossil taxonomy, including images of most taxa, a searchable bibliography of Neogene nannofossil literature, short descriptions of species and higher taxa. This is primarily based on Young (1998). Paleogene: Comprehensive listing of Paleogene taxa, produced by Paul Bown, with short notes on most taxa and illustrations of most taxa. Mesozoic: Comprehensive listing of Mesozoic taxa, produced by Jackie Lees and Paul Bown, with illustrations of most taxa. Extant nannoplankton: Currently only taxa with a significant fossil record are included but we plan to expand to full coverage of extant taxa in the medium term. Calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphy (ed. Bown 1998) - all the images from this key reference book are now included on the site and as somewhat better copies than the published version. Have a look at these galleries, Jurassic, Lower Cretaceous.
