Summer Teachers' Dissemination Workshop

The Connecticut College of Technology’s Regional Center for Next Generation Manufacturing (RCNGM) in collaboration with the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) offers high school, community college and university educators from all over the United States, including Puerto Rico, an opportunity to attend the Engineering Challenge for the 21st Century Program Summer Teachers Dissemination Workshop. This workshop is a recreation of the high school Engineering Challenge for the 21st Century Program for educators.

Based upon the success of the Engineering Challenge for the 21st Century Program with high school students, the Summer Teachers Dissemination Workshop was designed to share the underlying methodologies of the program so that the teachers are able to take and integrate these practices into their respective classrooms/institutions.

This is a week long workshop that provides educators with an opportunity to work with peers, from around the United States, while being immersed in a technology rich environment. At the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) educators will learn how to hone their team-building skills while using robotics to help save lives. The team-building skills learned here are designed to be directly applicable to their classrooms.

The Summer Teachers Dissemination Workshop involves:

• Development and preservation of effective teams
• Professional and interpersonal skills training utilizing DISC Behavioral Profile Assessments
• Problem-based-learning projects designed around life saving missions utilized by the United States
Coast Guard (USCG)

In addition to a traditional classroom setting, participants will work in teams led by United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) faculty and cadets, Regional Center for Next Generation Manufacturing (RCNGM) college faculty and project management and behavioral diversity consultants.
