Honduran Unions, with AFL-CIO, File CAFTA Labor Complaint with U.S.
Over two dozen Honduran trade unions joined by the AFL-CIO this week filed a labor complaint with the U.S. Department of Labor charging the Honduran government with violating the labor provisions of the Dominican-Republic Central America Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA).
The complaint focuses on violations in manufacturing, agricultural, and port operations.

On International Women’s Day, Honduran Banana Workers Union Slams Conditions in Melon Sector
An investigative report released today, International Women’s Day, found that 85% of the largely female workforce in the Honduran melon industry are not paid the legal minimum wage; 20% of women surveyed reported having to take a pregnancy test before being hired; 100% of workers surveyed were on temporary contracts.

U.S. Unions Call for Suspension of Military and Police Aid to Honduras
In a March 2, 2012 letter to members of the U.S. House of Representatives, the AFL-CIO, Autoworkers, Steelworkers, Teamsters and a half dozen other U.S. unions joined together urging Congress to send a firm message to the Obama Administration calling for a suspension of military and police aid to Honduras because of on-going human rights abuses.
