4.10.12

Yesterday around 1:30pm Linhsey came to me crying.

“Mama? Is it my time to cry?”

“No honey, you’re early, but that’s okay. You can cry now and get all of your tears and sadness out so you feel better.”

And with that she let loose. You see most days around the time Gene would get home from school L cries. It’s not the temper tantrum type of cry, or the cranky kind usually. It’s usually a sad, heartfelt waterfall of tears.

It stopped after about 5-10 minutes with even a few giggles thrown in-between, and with that she was as good as new as if it never happened.

Linhsey. My child with the old soul.

These were taken with the 24-70mm , ISO 125, f/2.8, 1/125 shutter speed. I sat her on the wall of our bedroom patio. The sun was to her back in our woods behind some clouds. About an hour later the clouds lifted and the light was beautiful and I found myself wishing for a do-over : )

Friday we went to Six Flags Great Adventure. I brought my 5D Mark II with the 24-70mm L on it. HEAVY. But I used my new Black Rapid camera strap and it seemed to do the trick. I carried my Lowepro Pro Runner on my back and all seemed well. Mike even carried and used the Gopro camera on some rides with L.

Can you see the sheer look of terror on her face there in the middle?spacer Would you even believe me if I told you this is her favorite ride and she always wants to hit it up first? spacer Taken with the GoPro while L was on the ride behind us.spacer This was the look on her face while waiting in line to go on ……spacer This.spacer And this was what she looked like on it.spacer It was so cold way up there on the top of the ferris wheel. spacer This was our view from way up high. spacer And a trip to Six Flags is only complete once you get your picture taken with some characters on the way out. spacer

I wasn’t going to post this video, but L and I just watched it for the hundredth time and she said , ” It’s comedy!”. It really is…even though she is screaming her head off. SHe really does LOVE this ride. I promise.

Oh, and Mike only blocks her with his arm for half of the video ; )

After all the times she has been on that ride, I never thought she
was traumatized like that. I felt really bad for her but I know she loves that ride.
Or maybe not.

You did a fantastic job at taking photos. I feel your pain from the weight of that camera. I dragged mine through Disney World and thought I was going to need a neck/back adjustment afterwards.

Loved the video of L. on the roller coaster. I so wish my two would be adventurous like that. My hubby and I have to take turns and ride alone because they’ll have nothing to do with any rides that remotely look like a coaster. spacer

This afternoon will start off Spring Break for the kids. The sun is finally shining this week {thank goodness!}, and they are ready for some….

Let me see, how did Linhsey put it this morning?

Oh yeah.

“Mama, I can’t wait for Friday so I can just lay in my bed, stay in my pajamas, and play video games all day.”

Sorry sweetie, but Mama is taking you to Great Adventure tomorrow, you’ll just have to suffer.

We were all outside playing basketball after dinner and I had her daddy swoop her up and place her on the wall while I ran and grabbed her hat and my camera for a 60 second photoshoot. I watch and observe everyday moments and see things differently now. She turned to me for a split second while playing basketball and her eyes caught my attention. I had to get a picture.

My sweet L.

The other day we learned of a man who was trying to abduct small children in nearby towns. We discussed this with L. She said, ” Mama, I know what we can do! Just dress me like a bandit and he won’t want me then!”

She says the cutest things. I write most of them down now so I can always remember them.

Recently she was taking her clothes out of the dryer. She called out from inside of the dryer, ” This is very private! Don’t say anything about this, okay?”

One night after dinner we were discussing her plan to move to Paris. She said, ” Actually, I’m  going to live right here in this house with my kids because all of this is going to be mine, even your clothes, but not your undawee (underwear). You pack your undawee!”

She has been very aware of skin color recently, and extremely aware that hers is not like ours. She told my mother that she was proud to be a Black American and that now she could sit in the front of the bus but years ago she couldn’t. Another day as she caressed her Nana’s skin she said, ” Nana, you’re like a white person….but with a little darker skin.”  I keep telling her she is Vietnamese. I even showed her pictures online of children from Vietnam. She doesn’t see herself as one of them. I hope she loves her beautiful skin as much as I do.

Last but not least, on Friday she said, ” I know how to say you’re welcome in Spanish. It’s NEVADA.”
