Sticks and Stones by Lisa monster of Flickr

It seems to be common misbelief that people cannot hurt others with their words, but you look at the reality of it, words can hurt just as much, if not more as sticks and stones that people throw at you.

In my previous post on bullying I discussed 6 Signs Someone May Be Being Bullied, but it has recently occurred to me that a lot of people don’t seem to know what constitutes as bullying.  People seem to think that bullying is only physical, but that’s not the case in the slightest.  Bullying can take place in a variety of different forms, which is what I will be discussing in this article.

spacer I can say with confidence that I am not a psychopath, but I could have been and I’ll tell you why.  Familial Ramblings’ original tagline was “Family is Who You Are,” and after my psychopathology class last night, I believe it more than ever.

How Many Have You Connected To?

As you know from my recent post RIP True Friend, I’ve been going through a lot lately.  To say the least I’m completely and utterly drained mentally and emotionally.  Thursday was the viewing and yesterday was the funeral of a dear, departed friend who might as well have been family and during it something occurred to me.  It amazed me at how many people one can touch throughout a lifetime.

As I said, the viewing was on Thursday and though I had to go later in the evening due to school, the funeral home was packed with people and apparently it had been that way from the very start.  I had never realized how many people she touched throughout her life, but it really shouldn’t have surprised me.

It all makes me wonder how many people I’ve touched and connected with over the years.  I mean, I know a lot of people.  Heck!  I know people all over the world, which is not something everyone can say.  It’s just interesting and something people rarely think about or realize in my opinion.  I know I didn’t think about it until I saw how many people attended both the viewing and funeral these past couple of days.  Then you also have to consider and wonder how many people couldn’t attend the view or funeral due to one reason or another.  How many more people are out there that she’s touched?  How many more people are out there that I’ve touched and just don’t realize it?

It’s an interesting concept to think about.  How many people have you touched and connected with?

R.I.P. True Friend

Today I learned that my mother’s best friend and someone who was a part of our family passed way just yesterday.  I must admit that I was devastated and could not even imagine what my mother was going through.  This friend had a lot of health problems, but her death came as a complete shock.  We had just been talking about her yesterday, about how she was such a good friend and the person I often compare my own friends to.  She was the type of person who would drop absolutely everything for you without a second thought.  I’ve known her for my entire life, since I was born, and it’s hard to think that she’s gone.  Even typing this is making be teary-eyed, but I want to write this post for her because she was a TRUE FRIEND and I believe that everyone can learn how to be a good friend by following by her example. Subscription Update

Hello Again Readers!

Are you getting tired of me and my announcements yet? I didn’t think so! It’s because my announcements usually contain some fun updates that I’ve made to Familial Ramblings, right? Either way, I’m here to announce that I’m making some changes to the subscription option. I’ve moved from Feedburner to MailChimp*, which allows me to customize the e-mails that you receive whenever I make a new post. This system has a lot more features than what I had to work with previously and I’m excited to see what this thing can really do!

What does that mean for you?  This means that you have to take about a minute out of your day to re-subscribe to the blog.  You can either do so by simply adding your e-mail where it says to on the top right or you can visit the subscription page by clicking here.

If you go to the subscription page, you have a couple of options.  You can decide if you would like to receive either a daily or weekly update for instance.  Daily subscriptions are basically what you receive now, but it’s more customized and gives a bit more detail.  Weekly subscriptions are received every Sunday (with the exception of today) and will basically let you know what posts you’ve missed during the week and any other tidbits I may end up adding.  You also have the option of deciding what kind of formatting you would like to receive whether it is HTML (fancy formatting with images I’ve added), Text (just plain text and no images) or Mobile (optimized for your mobile phone).

That pretty much sums everything up.  So please take less than 2 minutes out of your day and Subscribe to Familial Ramblings Updates!

*This is an affiliate link.  If you sign up for a paid plan using this link, I will get points which I can use towards my mailing list.  If you sign up for free, I will not receive anything, which is perfectly fine with me because I love their service already!
