APRIL MEETING: Heritage Ranch CSD Gallery Well Emergency Repair
Heritage Ranch Community Services District (HRCSD) is a small community of approximately 4,200 people adjacent to Lake Nacimiento. HRCSDs sole water source is the Nacimiento Reservoir via the Nacimiento River. HRCSDs raw water intake facility is a series of shallow infiltration gallery wells located under the Nacimiento River approximately 3,000 feet downstream of the Nacimiento Dam. Due to above average rainfall during the 2010-2011 season coupled with a series of intense spring storms, Monterey County Water Resources Agency lowered the new spillway gate in March 2011 and increased flow in the River from 400 cfs to 8,100 cfs in less than three hours, with a sustained flow over 6,000 cfs for several hours. Since the existence of the Gallery Wells, which were installed by the County in the 1970s, the River flows have not exceeded 3,000 cfs. The Districts Gallery Wells sustained substantial damage due to the high releases and were in need of emergency repairs, which were completed in the Fall of 2011. Aprils presentation will be given by the District Engineer for Heritage Ranch, Kari Wagner with Wallace Group, along with the project contractor, Specialty Construction. The presentation will include the history of the Gallery Wells, the design and permitting phase for the emergency project, and the intense one-week construction period for completing the repairs.
