Honky Tonk BBQ is proud to present the Saloon Stage, hosting a full schedule of live music that covers the genres of Americana, Western Swing, Honky Tonk, Rockabilly, Bluegrass, Blues, Old Time, Soul, and even the occasional selection of local and touring indie rock and acoustic acts. Bring your ears, an open mind, and your dancing shoes!

When it comes to Joe Hurt, the old adage needs to be rethought-Believe none of what you see and all of what you hear. To be fair, Joe looks like a young buisiness exec, and decidedly not like a seasoned jazz piano player, which he decidedly is. How many of the young lions of today can interweave modern modal harmony with old-school smooth, all the time keeping the distinctive groove of the Chicago style of Piano Jazz? The audiences, small and large, who tap their feet to the bop, or get up and dance, cast their votes for Joe’s talent.

The Northside Southpaws are an all-left-handed mandolin/guitar duo who have performed string ragtime, proto-grass, polkas, tangos and waltzes on lefty resonator instruments at Honky Tonk BBQ since 2007. In 2008 Mandolin Magazine called their debut cd, STOMP GLIDE WOBBLE, “one of the best mandolin CDs of the year”. Sing Out! magazine calls their latest cd, NO BREAD, “just wonderful”.

Comprised of six Chicago-based musicians, The Flat Cats play a range of vintage and modern music rooted in the hottest swinging jazz and blues, contemporary classics, and timeless standards. Whether you choose to listen, tap your foot, or cut a rug on the dance floor, you are sure to be entertained!

Specializing in original country/blues, Sarah & The Tall Boys is a Chicago-based Americana band that has been selling out venues across the country. Fronted by lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and lyricist, Sarah Potenza-Crossman, the band has been together for 4 years. It includes, bass player, Ian Crossman, pedal steel player, Gabriel Stutz, lead guitarist, Dan Allen, and drummer, Bryan Samson. Dynamic guitarist Dan Allen has been with Sarah since 2006, with her original group, The Sarah Potenza Band. Previous to that, Potenza-Crossman was featured on “Acoustic Chicago”, a compilation of the best singer/songwrittters in the windy city.

Every Saturday night Honky Tonk invites special guests DJs to spin the best of funk, soul, reggae, and eclectic treasures. It’s shaping up to be the best dance party this side of the train tracks.

A long time Honky Tonk musical guest, Dennis plays country, blues, and ragtime on a resonator guitar in the afternoons.

Fat Babies
The Fat Babies is a Chicago-based traditional jazz group, specializing in the music from the late 1920s to the early 1930s. Its hard-driving swing has made it a popular favorite for both dancers and listeners alike. The band has appeared numerous times for high profile swing dance groups in Chicago, and is quickly gaining recognition throughout the Midwest. The Fat Babies recently made an appearance at the famous Willowbrook Ballroom for the Swingers Ball. The band is heavily influenced by musicians such as Bix Beiderbecke, Louis Armstrong, and Jelly Roll Morton. As a result, the Fat Babies are known as some of the finest purveyors of authentic Chicago style jazz. Listeners and dancers alike will find fresh and exciting renditions of both familiar and unfamiliar songs in the Fat Babies’ performances.
