Rick Boston was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He studied jazz- harmony and orchestration at Grant MacEwan College. ††
In 1981 Rick relocated to California and quickly found session work in commercials and film. Rick Boston’s feature length film credits include work as the composer and music designer for The Harvest directed by David Marconi. Additional film work as a composer can also be heard in such projects as Police Academy, Anywhere But Here, Roxanne, the Secretary, the Man From Elysian Fields and After the Storm.†
Rick also was employed as a studio musician and songwriter. Initially employed as a songwriter for Chrysalis Group, Rick wrote songs under the direction of Nile Rodgers (Madonna, Duran Duran, David Bowie). Rick also wrote a song for Joe Cocker (You Know We’re Going to Hurt) in collaboration with Nick Gilder, which went on to become a multi-platinum selling record. In 1988 Rick toured as a lead guitarist with multi-platinum artist Belinda Carlisle. Rick also toured Europe with T-Bone Burnett and Sam Phillips, opening for Elvis Costello on the Mighty Like a Rose Tour. In the mid 90’s Rick signed a record deal with CBS records, writing and recording with members of Nine Inch Nails and Low Pop Suicide. †
Rick is signed with FoodChain Records as the founding member, writer and producer of a band called The Januaries. “The Januaries” work is being featured on HBO’s Six Feet Under and the Chris Isaak Show, MTV’s Undressed as well as the prime-time dramas Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Third Watch. Currently, as a writer and producer, he is also working with Sony recording artist, PJ Olsson, for his forth-coming album. His commercial credits include Dodge, Miller, Budweiser, Hyundai, Dell, Motorola, Virgin.net and Terminix. As a producer his list of credits include the O: Operatica, The Januaries (voted best new alternative album of the year, 2000), as well as Agnus Gooch, Sky Cries Mary, Rickie Lee Jones, Low Pop Suicide and Lili Hayden.†
Most recently, Rick’s writing and producing talents can be heard on the new album by Columbia Records recording artist P.J. Olsson, entitled Beautifully Insane, Beach Teriyaki: piano preludes with a twist with Paul Cantelon of The Wild Colonials, the new campaign for Citroen of France, The Hayden Triplets as well as the trailer for the new Miramax film The Green Hornet and just completed KUBO PUNKO cartoon for Warner Bros.
