  • Dutch sign off with victory over Cuba | FIVB

    Tokyo, Japan, November 14, 2010 – The Netherlands prevailed against Cuba in the fight for 11th spot at the 2010 FIVB Women's World Championship. In a hard-fought match at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, it was the Dutch who emerged victorious in straight-sets (32-30, 25-23, 25-17).

  • China put Cuba away in four | FIVB

    Tokyo, Japan, November 13, 2010 - China recovered from losing the first set and defeated Cuba 3-1 (16-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22) in the semifinal round for places 9-12 in the 2010 FIVB Women's Volleyball World Championship in Tokyo on Saturday.

  • Turkey take out Germany in five-set thriller | FIVB

    Tokyo, Japan, November 13, 2010 - Turkey delighted their fans who turned up at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Saturday by winning a very hard-fought 5-8 semifinal in five sets (25-23, 25-18, 14-25, 20-25, 15-11) against a tough German team who almost pulled off a stunning comeback.

    Tokyo, Japan, November 13, 2010 - Italy came away with a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-15, 25-22) against Serbia in their semifinal match for the 5-8 positions at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Saturday evening. The Italians prevailed over a tough Serbian team who just couldn’t seem to find their rhythm.

  • Resilient Poland collect third win against winless Algeria | FIVB

    Tokyo, Japan, November 3, 2010 - Poland improved to three-and-two in first round play in their match on Wednesday, winning handily against winless Algeria (25-17, 25-16, 25-12) who now return home. The win represetned a good return of three wins on the trot for Poland after dropping their initial two matches to Japan and Serbia as they move into second round action which kicks off on Saturday.

  • Japan beats Serbia in battle of the undefeated | FIVB

    Tokyo, Japan, November 3, 2010 - In a clash of two perfect Pool A teams, Japan and Serbia gave the crowd at Yoyogi stadium their money’s worth, with the home team walking away the victor (28-26, 29-27, 18-25, 27-25) in an amazing contest. Japan now stands as the only team to win all first round games in the group as they move onto the second stage.

  • Peru sends Costa Rica home after a hard-fought battle | FIVB

    Tokyo, Japan, November 3, 2010 - Peru booked the fourth and final second round spot in Pool A after a well-worked 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 32-34, 25-19) win over Costa Rica in Tokyo on Wednesday. With both sides boasting 1:3 win:loss records going into the match, the winner was guaranteed survival in the FIVB Women's World Championship Japan 2010 while the loser would go home. Peru's win sees them advance along with Serbia, Poland, and hosts Japan. Costa Rica, with their fourth loss, joins Algeria as an eliminated side.

Costa Rica (1-3) now faces a must win match against Peru on Wednesday to see who is the fourth team from Pool A to advance to the second round.
