Downtown Steamboat Springs

By Stephanie from AllTrips.com

Known for it's laid back atmosphere and western charm, downtown Steamboat Springs is located about three miles from the base of the mountain. The town offers free public transportation, so getting to and around the mountain and downtown is incredibly easy. When you aren't skiing or soaking in the famous hot springs, spending the afternoon wandering around downtown is a great experience. From incredible dining options to unique boutiques, Steamboat has something for everyone.

Dining

There is an abundance of dining options in Steamboat Springs, last I counted over 100 restaurants and bars. No palate will go underserved! From Mexican options to sushi, Steamboat travels the globe to bring diners some of the best options. If you're looking for a more local flavor, you can't go wrong with great burgers, elk steaks and locally brewed beers. If you are looking for something more upscale, Steamboat has plenty of options for fine dining and special events. Trying to keep this vacation as budget friendly as possible? Steamboat even offers restaurant options for those who spent their last dime getting to this beautiful place. No matter your food cravings or wallet size, Steamboat Springs is sure to have a restaurant, pub or coffee house to meet all of your needs.

Nightlife

Like most great ski towns, Steamboat Springs offers residents and visitors plenty of saloons and pubs to relax and have a drink. Downtown Steamboat is filled with historic bars and saloons for après ski drinks or just an afternoon catching up with friends. If you're into the music scene, Steamboat has a number of bars that offer live music and dance floors, check local listings for who's playing where. Looking for something a bit different? Steamboat has its very own bowling alley, something you don't find too often in a small ski town. However you want to fill your evenings, Steamboat is sure to please.

Shopping

There is no shortage of shops for those wanting to spend a day perusing downtown Steamboat. From unique western boutiques to top of the line sportswear, dog accessories and books, Steamboat has a shop for everyone. Most shops will make shipping very easy so don’t worry about getting that moose antler lamp on the plane. Make sure to spend some time both downtown and around the mountain, as shops are abundant in both areas.

Music

Don't think Steamboat is only worth checking out in the winter, summer is a great time to explore the mountains as well as hear great music in town. During the summer, Steamboat offers their nationally recognized music festival. Visitors and residents alike enjoy chamber music concerts every Wednesday and Saturday evenings and youth and family concerts every Tuesday. It’s hard to imagine that world-class opera would be available in small town Steamboat but The Emerald City Opera offers professional caliber opera in this beautiful mountain town. If interested, check local listings for upcoming performances. Steamboat also offers a free summer concert series that is quickly being recognized as one of the best in the area as attendance has shot up to 4,000-6,000 people per show. They offer a wide variety of performances in a family friendly atmosphere. The schedule is usually released in late spring so be on the lookout.

With over 100 restaurants and bars, blocks of great shopping and a music scene sure to impress, Steamboat Springs should be at the top of your list for next places to visit. We're sure you'll find something that everyone enjoys all right at your fingertips!
