Few bands perform with the raw roots ability, country credibility, pop sensibilities and punk rock energy of North Carolina’s Avett Brothers. Singer-songwriter-storytellers Seth and Scott Avett use the guitar, banjo, piano, drums and harmonica, teaming up on tour with stand-up bassist Bob Crawford, cellist Joe Kwon and drummer Jacob Edwards to make music while telling beautiful, well crafted stories about love and life. One of the fastest rising bands in the US, they’ve built an increasingly loyal and large following over their decade-plus in existence as a band.

Although they have released several studio and live albums since 2002, their best-known has been 2009’s I and Love and You. Peaking in the top twenty on the Billboard album charts, the album gave The Avetts the opportunity to play in larger and higher profile venues, even sharing the stage with Mumford and Sons and Bob Dylan at the 2011 Grammys. By the time they take the stage at 80/35, they should be supporting their new LP, due out this spring—a year that includes a Bonnaroo gig, a headline spot at Wakarusa and sold-out shows across the US.

Performing Friday, July 6
