Term Buyers Enter Uranium Market

spacer Industry consultant TradeTech closed out its spot uranium price indicator for 2011 at US$52.00/lb. This was down from US$62 at the end of 2010. Spot trading activity in 2010 totalled 42.8mlbs and marked the highest level in 20 years. Activity in 2011 – the year dominated by the “fallout” from Fukushima – reached a new record of 45.8mlbs.

Russia - France Nuclear Cooperation

spacer On 18 November, following a meeting of the Russian-France commission on issues of bilateral cooperation at the prime ministerial level, the two nations signed a declaration of cooperation in the field of nuclear power.

Russian Federation Prime Minister Vladimir Putin signed on behalf of Russia, while inking the document for France was French Prime Minister Francois Fillon.

Cameco Backs Down Over Hathor

spacer Cameco Corp. (CCJ:,CCO.TO:) said Monday it is backing out of its hostile C$625 million takeover bid for its smaller peer Hathor Exploration Ltd. (HAT.TO:). The announcement clears the way for mining giant Rio Tinto plc (RTNTF.PK:,RIO:,RIO.L: ,RTPPF.PK:) to proceed with its planned takeover of Hathor for C$654 million.
