Basalt is a quaint mountain community located at the confluence of two Gold medal trout streams, the Fryingpan and the Roaring Fork Rivers. We are a vibrant and diverse community offering a wealth of recreational opportunities both in Basalt and in the surrounding communities of Aspen, Snowmass Village, and Glenwood Springs.

Rich in history, Basalt maintains a small town feel while offering a wide variety of restaurants and unique shopping.

Feral Cat Population in Basalt

Volunteers from the Street Cat Coalition are scoping out the Pan and Fork Mobile Home Park to identify how many feral cats live there. If the number is high enough, as expected, the next step will be to use live traps to capture the animals, spay or neuter them and ultimately return them to the mobile home park, volunteer Cindy Sadlowski told the Basalt Town Council at its December meeting. New Regional Effort – Waste Free Roaring Fork

Several communities in this valley are working together on Waste Free Roaring Fork. Their efforts are geared toward reducing waste in the Roaring Fork Valley. The Basalt Green Team has been an active participant in this effort and they have asked the Town Council to adopt an ordinance placing a ban on plastic bags and a 20 cent fee on paper bags for grocers. See Basalt Bag Ordinance above. See more about Waste Free Roaring Fork and what other communities are doing to reduce waste at www.wastefreeroaringfork.org.
