Welcome to the Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center

The Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center (NPWRC) conducts integrated research to fulfill the Department of the Interiors responsibilities to the Nations natural resources. Located on 600 acres along the James River Valley near Jamestown, North Dakota, the NPWRC develops and disseminates scientific information needed to understand, conserve, and wisely manage the Nations biological resources. Research emphasis is primarily on midcontinental plant and animal species and ecosystems of the United States.

Seasonal Positions at Northern Prairie:

Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center annually employs numerous seasonal biological science technicians. These positions vary in length from a few weeks to several months; some positions begin as early as February and others may last through September.

Positions are typically GS-4, GS-5, GS-6, or GS-7. Duties vary and may include censusing or evaluating nesting success of prairie birds; capturing and tracking wildlife using radiotelemetry; invertebrate sampling and analysis; vegetation sampling and analysis in wetland and grassland environments; amphibian population assessment; waterfowl surveys; or censusing of mammalian predators. Applications for these positions are normally due several months prior to the field season. Application procedures and deadlines will be posted between December and March each year.
