CTIA Announces Short Code Lessee Vetting

spacer

The CTIA has announced a new vetting process, conducted by Aegis Mobile, which will occur on all short code lessees going forward. The vetting process is accomplished in two steps, the first step is designed to screen campaigns to determine if they are standard rate or premium. During the second step, premium campaigns are subject to a series of vetting procedures designed to help them learn more about the company attempting to lease codes from the registry.

The vetting process will authenticate certain elements of the CSC application submitted to the registry and confirm their veracity. The CTIA claims to have added these procedures as an additional safeguard to protect everyone in the industry, especially consumers, from companies seeking to implement nefarious or misleading campaigns. This additional verification is accomplished very quickly and does not prolong the short code provisioning process. In most cases, timely response will ensure campaigns are executed as expected. Participating companies should expect to undergo similar vetting procedures on a regular yearly cycle.
