Rapid Literature Reviews
The Evidence Adoption Centre (EAC) provides a rapid literature review service for all PCTs in the east of England. The reviews help service providers and commissioners in making better-informed decisions. The EAC reviewers work in close collaboration with the PCTs, so that the expert knowledge of clinicians and public health professionals can be fully exploited.
The reviews are produced in accordance with a robust methodology. After receiving the review request on a standard proforma, a formal request for a literature search is sent to the regional NHS library and information network. This network then carries out a comprehensive and professional search, which is completed by the EAC research officers. The research evidence thus obtained is summarised in narrative and tabular form in a short report, which is peer-reviewed by a member of CAN (the regional Critical Appraisal Network allied to the EAC) before being made publicly available.
