Why Am I Running?

I believe strongly in collaboration and teamwork, that all voices are important voices, and that a library’s mission is not only to inform and educate its users, but to provide a home for community activities and a safe place for expression.  As LITA president, I plan to help guide LITA in a direction that embodies that philosophy.  I want to ensure transparency throughout LITA's governance, increase educational and professional development opportunities for its members, and foster networking opportunities both online and off.  LITA's members are its strength and its life, and I want to build on that by helping to transform LITA into an organization that is attractive to potential new members and home to existing ones.

My Philosophy

Over the course of my professional career, I've accomplished many things that I'm proud of.  However, it is my life philosophy that I consider to be my most important accomplishment.  In my career as a librarian, I have endeavored to inspire change and make connections, whether connecting users with information or exploring new technologies with co-workers.  As the Head of the technology unit in an academic library, I've had to bridge the technological and library worlds.  That's been a challenging role, because both those worlds constantly shift and merge and pull apart.  I've focused my efforts, therefore, on bringing together librarians and staff to leverage technology tools in a way that draws humanity into our users' experience.  I strive to ensure that all the work I undertake as an employee, association member, friend, partner, or parent is marked by mindfulness, transparency, kindness, and the desire for everyone to have meaningful work.
