CPCUG's Computer Recycling Program

Project Reboot Director:

Contact Info:
REBOOT20850@VERIZON.NET

Front Desk Volunteer Needed.

Project Reboot is in need of voluteer assistance at its front desk, serving the public by dispensing refurbished computers. Mondays from 1 to 5 PM (or a shift) and Wednesdays 10 AM to 4 PM. Reboot is a fast paced place and training will be given. To Volunteer, email: Gerry Rosenkrantz. Address and further details on Reboot are below.

About Our Location.

In January, 2009, Project Reboot moved to a new facility near the Home Depot store on Shady Grove Road in Rockville, MD.

Reboot's Address is 4 Choke Cherry Road, Rockville, MD 20850, see Reboot Directions
Reboot's Phone Number: 301-330-0034 but only during Reboot's Business Hours.

Reboot's Business Hours: Mondays, 1 to 5 pm, and Wednesdays, 10 am to 4 pm (except holidays). However, please do not drop off donations when Reboot is closed, as equipment can be vandalized or damaged.

Project Reboot accepts computer hardware and software donations at our workshop/storage facility in Rockville, MD, from individuals, companies and government agencies. There our volunteers (some experienced, some just learning) refurbish it after testing, repair, and upgrades. Hardware with current operating system software is then donated at very low cost to non-profit, educational, religion-based, and charitable organizations. We help schools, senior centers, religious organizations, and other groups that work with low and moderate income families, and other needy, local clients. Note that since March 1, 2009, our documentation requirements have changed, see Qualifications. Usually the only charge to the receipient is a nominal cash fee to cover expenses and software licensing, typically $10, see Fee. Printers, when available, require an added payment of $20.

Project Reboot currently accepts personal computers in the Pentium III class or above (e-mail us if you're not sure). Computers need not be in working order. Sorry, but Reboot cannot accept tube-type (CRT) monitors unless each is accompanied by a computer or a computer-compatible speaker set and cannot accept serial keyboards or serial mice; for more information see Reboot Donation Details. And Reboot does not recyle Apple computers, but check out Washington Apple Pi.

Since August, Dataprise, Inc., a Rockville, MD, based information technology services provider and systems integrator, has partnered with Project Reboot's computer recycling program. Dataprise encourages its clients to participate in the program, and more than 100 PCs have already been donated since the inception of the partnership. Additionally, Dataprise is providing manpower and expertise to assist Project Reboot volunteers, for more see Dataprise and Reboot.
The new Project Reboot location was officially opened on January 9, 2009, by the Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and Montgomery County Council President Phil Andrews. In the photo below they are honoring Gerry Rosenkranz, the Director of Project Reboot for Reboot's long record of public service.

Want To Help Out? You can make a difference if you have time or other resources to spare. To donate computer hardware or software, to make a tax deductible donation, or volunteer to help Reboot, please contact Reboot Project Director Gerry Rosenkrantz.

You can even make a tax deductible cash donation directly to Project Reboot. We prefer PayPal. However, you do not need a PayPal account, you can donate in a safe and secure manner with a major credit card by clicking the PayPal logo below. The funds go directly to Project Reboot to be used for printer ink cartridges, spare parts, and other miscellaneous expenses related to recycling computers for those in need.
