Magazine Site Search Lags Behind Online Community Needs

Deborah Richman, Senior Vice President at Collarity Inc., reviewed the site search capabilities of the top 50 magazines in circulation and posted her findings on Search Engine Watch.

Richman found magazine site search to be surprisingly lacking in vision and ability. Below are a few of her key takeaways:

  • Community participation in magazine sites is lagging when compared to non-magazine sites
  • The majority of magazine publishers see their sites as online destinations rather than community focused vertical portals

In conclusion Richman wrote: β€œIt’s obvious these powerhouse publishers should start looking at core search and newer search approaches -- or sacrifice the upside traffic and revenue potential for their brands online.”
