Dolls and Guns – Koptor – Kevin Brow:

Dolls and Guns (Blackout Music) is drummer/composer Kevin Brow’s new album of original duo and solo music.
An enlightening mixture of classical and jazz chamber pieces between Brow and a 13 well chosen musicians.  Dolls & Guns is a magnificent work that is not only a study of a musician and composer that is growing in stature. It is a document of leadership and creativity among individuals. Wonderful and moving stuff”. Stephan Moore- JazzWrap, USA

Dolls and Guns is recorded with 13 of the worlds most innovative jazz and classical musicians from USA, Canada, Norway, Denmark and France.  Each tune is written specifically for the musician that recorded the piece, and all of the music is to a large extent through composed with limited space for improvisation.  This gives the album it’s own original sound and attitude full of personal expression, which takes the listener on a coherent musical journey from start to finish.  Dolls and Guns is an album that more presents the atmosphere of a film sound track than a jazz duo/solo album.  All the music is composed by Kevin Brow, whom also plays drums on most of the tunes.

Dolls and Guns Musicians: Marc Ducret(fr), Tim Berne(us), Jacob Sacks(us), Eivind Opsvik(no), Lotte Anker(dk), Kasper Tranberg(dk) Jacob Anderskov(dk), Mikkel Ploug(dk), Sissel Vera Pettersen(no), Rob Mosher(can), Dan Weiss(us), Claus Myrup(dk) og Toke Møldrup(dk).

Koptor

Beautiful, ugly, simple, complex, raw and meticulous could best describe Koptor’s music .

Koptor performs original music written by Canadian drummer/composer Kevin Brow.  The band is a coalition of four innovative and internationally acclaimed musicians from Canada and Denmark.

‘’Convincingly hip, thoughtfully astute, the music is the sound of modern jazz without its constraints’’ –Mark F. Turner, all about jazz

Lotte Anker (DK) – saxophone,   Jacob Anderskov (DK) – piano,  Graig Earle (CA) – bass,  Kevin Brow (CA) – drums/compositions

Koptor’s first album was released in 2008 on the prestigious international jazz record label ‘Fresh Sound New Talent’ and was welcomed with exceptional reviews in Canada, Europe and USA.  The band has performed in Europe, USA and Canada.  The new album ”Fire Sink” will be be released March 2011 again on Fresh Sound New Talent Records.

Koptor’s music freshly unifies detaile

d compositions with free invention.  The music balances and fluidly blends rawness with meticulousness, ugliness with beauty and simplicity with complexity.  In other words, the music is structured by the attraction of opposites.

These original and internationally recognized musicians from Canada and Denmark form a unique musical collaboration that uncompromisingly explores and blends different cultural and musical backgrounds.  This collaboration gives Koptor’s music depth and a mysterious edge that in turn, blurs the boundaries of jazz genres and gives the listener the sense of the known, the unknown and the unexpected.

Kevin Brow is an exciting unique and consequent drummer and composer with a foundation in jazz yet a persevering goal to explore and stretch musical boundaries to create an advanced and accessible modern acoustic music. He has made his presence felt on the international circuit touring and playing festivals in Europe, Canada, Scandinavia and USA with his own group Koptor and as a sideman with outstanding musicians such as Pete Robbins, Mikkel Ploug, Loren Stillman, Phil Dwyer, Jacob Anderskov, Lotte Anker, Don Thomson, Peter Rosendal, goo! Peter Vanhuffel, and has recorded with internationally renowned jazz musicians such as Tim Berne, Marc Ducret, Jacob Sacks, Eivind Opsvik among others.

Brow holds a bachelor of music degree from the University of Toronto and an Advanced Performance Diploma from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.  He has also been awarded a substantial study grant for further studies in New York from the Canada Council for the Arts.  Originally from Canada, Brow is now based in Copenhagen where he has been since 2007. “An accomplished technician yet one with heart and fire….an outstanding melodic gift on the drumkit.” (All about jazz, New York).
