We're glad you stopped by to check out our Mallies in need of their "furever" homes! We are now a bona fide, federally recognized non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to assisting Alaskan Malamutes and their owners when in crisis throughout the Intermountain West. Please be aware that Moonsong Malamute Rescue (MMR) is not a shelter or humane society. We are affiliated with the Alaskan Malamute Assistance League (AMAL), which is the national rescue organization recognized by the Alaskan Malamute Club of America. As an affiliate to AMAL, MMR operates under AMAL's code of ethics.

We offer educational material about the Alaskan Malamute breed, can assist in resolving containment issues, are able to help an owner with appropriately re-homing their Malamute when necessary, and provide behavioral issues support in the form of referrals to trainers and other more experienced Malamute owners. Donated funds are also used to help care for Malamutes with adoptable personalities who have been pulled from shelters, or who have been seized by authorities after having been abandoned, neglected, or abused.

Please note that it is our policy to only adopt out to applicants from Idaho or our neighboring states of Montana, Wyoming, and Nevada, where no Malamute rescue organization is yet established. We also work very closely with Arctic Breeds Rescue in Utah and will adopt out to that state as well. If you are not within these 5 states, then please contact the Malamute rescue in your state where there are undoubtedly many rescue Mals in need of homes. Please see a listing of affiliate rescues here.

MMR is growing, and needs foster homes and volunteers to help care for our charges, so if you would like to help with MMR's efforts, please see our Foster Program and Volunteer sections. In addition to the always welcome cash donation, we are very pleased to accept donations of large dog equipment to help house our charges, and are happy to accept other items of value that can be raffled or auctioned to benefit our rescue efforts.

It is our hope that potential volunteers and successful adopters will want to assist in any or all of these activities to the level they feel able, but we are also happy to just have you contact us from time to time to tell us how you and your own Mallies are doing. Because we operate the rescue out of various foster homes in our 5 state assistance area, please do call and make an appointment to visit with us. We just know you will want to take a Mally home with you!!!
