GRANTS AVAILABLE FROM THE NEW MEXICO COALITION FOR LITERACY

The NMCL generally awards three types of grants on a competitive basis to local adult literacy programs in New Mexico:

  • 1) Operating Assistance Grants: Regular and Special

    Regular Operating Assistance Grants are awarded on a competitive basis once a year to eligible local adult literacy programs in New Mexico.   Grants can be used for operating costs and will range to $10,000 for fiscal year 2011-2012.  An application form is required along with supporting documentation. You must read and understand the cover letter, guidelines, and grant application before applying for funding.

    Please read the information below carefully and note the focus areas we target for requests.  All applications must be received by July 20, 2011, 5:00 pm.  There will be no exceptions.  You must send one original and one copy of your grant application.  No special bindings, paperclips, or covers will be accepted; no electronic or faxed copies will be accepted.  We will accept single staple only of each copy and all applications will be rejected that do not meet the specifications outlined herein, the guidelines, and the application itself.  You are encouraged to use certified mail, return receipt requested.

    Special Operating Assistance Grants are available on a competitive basis to New Mexico 501(c)(3) agencies, institutions, and organizations providing Basic Literacy and English language instruction to adults, with primary emphasis on Basic Literacy. Grants can be used for operating costs and will range from $500 to $1,000 for a project period of April 1 through June 30, 2012.  An application form is required along with supporting documentation. You must read and understand the cover letter, guidelines, and application before you request funding and applications that do not meet the criteria outlined in this request for proposals will not be considered.

  • 2) Training and Technical Assistance Grants

Grants for training and technical assistance activities are available from the NMCL throughout the year.  Please see the Training and Technical Assistance section of this web site for information on how to request a grant for these purposes.

  •  3) Materials Grants

As funds allow, grants of up to $500 are awarded for the purchase of instructional materials to be used by students or as reference material by tutors and instructors.  Program management materials are also eligible.  Grants are year-round and adult literacy programs may apply twice per fiscal year year - once before December 31 and secondly before June 30.
