About
Fairwater Brewery isn’t a real brewery; you can’t buy our ales. It’s just the name I’ve given to my home-brewing experiments. This site is intended as a journal of the brews I make, my comments, mistakes, and (with luck) successes. I only started brewing in January 2010, so I still have an awful lot to learn…
In 2010 I brewed 515 litres of ale, with a disappointing 35 litres poured down the drain. If I assume that a Microbrewery can be defined as one that qualifies for the UK Customs & Excise Small Brewers Relief Scheme (up to 5000 Hectolitres a year), and since I have brewed 5 Hecolitres in 2010 (a thousandth of this limit), I hereby define myself as a Nanobrewery!
The photo of hops in the banner was taken from an image on Flickr by Martin LaBar.
The other banner photos are mine. The cat’s eyes are those of our fluffy lump of a cat, Pepsi, whose face adorns the labels I’ve made so far for my bottled beer. The dried hops and grains are photos I took during a brew session.
I’ve been at this only since the start of 2010 so I certainly can’t claim to be an expert, or anything approaching it. However, I have found a few things, and made a few mistakes, so it’s worth my noting them so I don’t forget about them. And who knows, maybe they’ll be of use to other people as well.
