The Biomedical Circuits and Systems Conference is an annual premier and high-standard event providing a scientific forum for researchers and scholars to interact and exchange ideas in a very rapidly growing area of research, as well as to present results and innovative solutions for today’s health problems at the frontiers of biomedical engineering. The conference aims to bring together scientists, engineers, medical researchers, and practitioners from all over the world to meet and discuss cutting-edge research in biomedical circuits and systems, as well as to solve complex real world problems requiring inter-disciplinary collaboration.

The IEEE Medal for Innovations in Healthcare Technology was established in February, 2009.

The IEEE and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society have been involved in the life sciences since 1953; the establishment of this medal will promote IEEE as well as past and future contributions to the life sciences field.

The goal of this special issue is to present original contributions in the area of terahertz imaging and spectroscopy relevant to biomedicine.  Authors are invited to submit paper contributions including (but not limited to) the following topics:

·       Terahertz spectroscopy of proteins and other bio-molecules

·        Terahertz imaging of biological tissues

·        Algorithms for terahertz data extraction and analysis

·        Advancements in terahertz technology
