Mardi Gras Doubloon Collection

Hi, I got most of these doubloons when I started collecting them at 9 years old. I am 57 now. Every year my family would go downtown to Lee Circle to watch the carnival parades: Rex, Elks, etc. that would follow the road about halfway around the circle on St. Charles Ave. Then all the relatives from several familys would meet up at City Park for a big picnic with homemade fried chicken, potato salad, pies, chips, soft drinks, and every thing else you can think of.

When we got to Lee Cirle it was with great anticipation that I would go on down to the viewing stands that were built for the parades on the edge of St. Charles Ave. I would get the doubloons "under the stands". There were many kids under there, and each had a section bordered by the scaffolding that holds up the stands. If a doubloon or a set of beads fell into your section you would go for it as fast as possible. If another kid could come over from an ajoining section on either side of you and get to it first, it was his.

These are some of the Rex Doubloons that I got.

Below is the reverse side of the Rex page of doubloons.
