MDA Director for Small Business Programs Receives the Alabama A & M University Diversity Award

Lee Rosenberg, Director for Small Business Programs for the Missile Defense Agency, is the recipient of the Alabama A & M University Diversity Award for his work with Huntsville, Ala.-area small and disadvantaged businesses. He received the award at the University’s 12th Annual Black Tie Scholarship Gala, held April 12, 2012 at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville.

The Diversity Award is described by Alabama A & M as a means to “recognize an individual, company or organization that contributes to diversity and inclusion initiatives. These are defined as organizational programs, activities and individual efforts designed to promote and support differences in people and society, that may include race and ethnic origin; gender, physical abilities, religious beliefs, age, education, sexual orientation; and/or other perceived differences within or for Alabama A&M, its students and the community it serves.”

Rosenberg was the winner in a field of three contestants, including representatives from the Army Contracting Command and Boeing, Inc. He was recognized for his long-time efforts in educating small and disadvantaged businesses in doing business with the U.S. government in general and MDA in particular.

"The diversity of thought and capability throughout the Small Business community is one of that community's many strengths. Those small businesses are not exclusive to any one geographic area and their highly capable employees run across all demographic boundaries. For that reason I've tried to work with as many as possible across both the US and the socioeconomic spectrum to educate them on how to do business with MDA. This enables the agency to tap into that talent to increase the capabilities and cost effectiveness of the BMDS we field to the warfighter,” Rosenberg stated.

He was nominated for the award by TecMasters, a Huntsville-based small business.

In his position as Director of Small Business Programs, Rosenberg is responsible for the development and oversight of MDA’s small business efforts and acts as an advocate for the utilization of small businesses throughout the agency. He also oversees the agency’s small and disadvantaged outreach efforts and the MDA Mentor-Protégé Program, designed to partner large and small businesses together in bidding for government contracts.
