Newfoundland and Labrador's Photography Blog

About

Hello!

My name is Colin Peddle and I am a photographer. You might be wondering what ‘nlphotogs.com’ is all about, who we are and why we started nlphotogs.com to begin with. To put it simply our goal has been to provide photographers of Newfoundland and Labrador an online presence; a place to congregate, discuss, network, show off, learn and contribute to Newfoundland’s photography scene.

Our site is for all age levels, all skill levels and all photographers in Newfoundland & Labrador. Whether you shoot with a Canon Digital Elph or a Nikon D3x, you’re welcome with open arms.

If you like us, I ask you to !PLEASE! support us either by creating content, chatting in the forums or using the affiliate and donate links.

Enjoy your stay!

History:

  • November 27th 2007 – Matt and Colin while driving down Kenmount Rd. come up with the idea to create a simple message board site for all Newfoundland & Labrador photographers
  • November 28th 2007 – On a stormy Wednesday afternoon the site goes live and our first users register. Our first user to sign up is Todd Baker, who is the current leader in post count on the forums. He was quickly followed by fellow talented photographers, Travis Parsons and Karen Chappell.
  • March 29th 2008 – Our 100th user registers, MichaelEvoy. He proceeds to post zero times :) but he was the deciding factor in whether to continue with the site or not as we’d met our goal of 100 users by the end of March.
  • March 16th 2008 – We announce our first (and so far only) photo contest, with prizes!
  • April 15 2008 – We launch a wordpress blog for the site. It’s slow and ugly, but it functions.
  • October 2008 – John Williams becomes the winner of our public vote photography contest, winning a Pop Photo subscription as well as a course credit for Shane Kelly’s photography classes, valued at over $400.
  • June 2009 – A birding section for birders and bird photographers was added to the forums. This proves to be a hit section and is now a major category in the photography area.
  • January 2009 – The site is refreshed, moving the wordpress blog to the front page of the site and moving the forums to a subdomain. The redesign of the front page is ok, not amazing. Does the job. :)
  • January 2010 – The site is relaunched again, this time with a new mindset, new goals and new ideas. The blog is rocking and the forums are now variable width to better make use of larger monitors but still keep the small screens happy. The users now own the website, allowing anyone to post front page content and promote themselves.
  • February 26th 2010 – The site moves urls from the longer nlphotographers.com to the shorter and cooler nlphotogs.com. The url change reflects the general change is ideals which the January refresh brought with it.
  • November 2010 – Despite best efforts the blog was scrapped to make way for a newer version of the site. In the meantime, all that was available were the forums.
  • February 18th 2011 – New version of both the forums and blog launch with design influence from lowercased and forums converted from phpbb3 to bbpress.
  • February 18th 2012 – Another new and final version of both the forums and blog re-launch with design influence from lowercased and forums converted back to phpbb3 from bbpress.
